About the event

Talk, Fashion show, Film Screening

Step into the rich visual and tactile world of Sudan with House of Nazik Sirag — an immersive celebration of Sudanese textile heritage curated by Nazik Sirag. Blending fashion, film, and conversation, the event honours the beauty, craftsmanship, and cultural significance of traditional Sudanese handmade fabrics while exploring their place within contemporary artistic practice.

At the heart of the evening is a fashion presentation featuring garments created from Damour, Motrar, and Damoria — three iconic Sudanese textiles renowned for their distinctive textures, earthy tones, and deep cultural resonance. Each handcrafted piece reflects a dialogue between tradition and modernity, weaving together themes of resilience, femininity, identity, and memory through elegant silhouettes, intricate detailing, and expressive patterns.

The presentation will be followed by a short film screening and a live conversation with Nazik Sirag and invited guests, exploring the emotional, political, and cultural significance of Sudanese dress and adornment. Together, they will discuss how clothing can function as artistic expression, cultural preservation, and a form of resistance during times of displacement and diaspora.

More than a showcase, House of Nazik Sirag is a tribute to the stories woven into every thread — an invitation to celebrate, preserve, and reimagine Sudanese culture through the language of fabric, craftsmanship, and collective memory.

Gidam - Jusqu'au bout!
2025 - 43 minutes – Documentary film
By Sarah Bachellerie & Hamad Gamal

Breaking away from the limited and often sensationalist media images that have documented recent events in Sudan — from the 2019 revolution to the war that began in 2023 — the directors of the documentary Gidam! – Jusqu'au bout! Researcher Sarah Bachellerie and journalist and political scientist Hamad Gamal, follow their protagonists — Essam, Rashida, Mussab, Ismaïl, and Khansa — Sudanese refugees living in France. Over the course of three years marked by political tension and hope, the film documents the continued commitment of these activists in exile as they witness their country rise up for freedom and democracy, only to collapse once again following the military coup and the outbreak of war.

Gidam! – Jusqu'au bout!
is also the first documentary to shine a light on the Sudanese diaspora in France.

Ratrata
2025 – 17 min - fiction/experimental, in Arabic, with English subtitles
By Sadam Siddig
(France – Egypt – Sudan)

Screenplay: Alaa Hassanien, Ezzat Sabry, Sadam Siddig
Production: Sadam Siddig, Yasir Faiz, Alaa Hassanien

A man and a woman wander through the streets of Cairo at night. During this poetic stroll, they share their desires, memories, feelings, and concerns. A voice—at times deep, at times gentle and enchanting—accompanies them, surrounding and enveloping them throughout their journey.

La Boîte à chance
2026 – 11 minutes – Fiction
By Omer Shishani

La Boîte à chance is a short fiction film inspired by real events. It follows Mohamed, a Sudanese man living in Paris, whose ambitions—stability, success, and marrying the woman he loves—gradually lead him into gambling. What begins as hope-driven risk-taking turns into addiction, pushing him into a spiral of loss.

As his situation deteriorates, Mohamed loses everything, including the few precious personal “treasures” he kept in a wooden box, believing they would bring him luck. The film traces the fragile boundary between hope and obsession, and the cost of chasing fortune against the realities of exile and precarity.
